Ask for reviews by text, in your own words

Text messages are short, personal, and easy to act on, which makes them a natural way to ask customers for a review right after a visit or job. This review request SMS generator writes a brief, friendly message built around your customer’s name, your business, and the tone you choose.

The tool combines hand-written phrase variants with your inputs. It does not send texts, store phone numbers, or save anything on a server. You copy the message and send it through your own phone or texting platform.

How to use the review request SMS generator

  1. Enter the customer’s first name (optional).
  2. Add your business name and choose your business type.
  3. Pick a tone: warm, professional, or short.
  4. Add optional details, such as the service you provided or your staff member’s name.
  5. Paste your Google review link so customers can tap straight through.
  6. Generate the message and regenerate for a different variation if you like.
  7. Copy the text and send it from your phone or business SMS tool.

To find your review link, open your Google Business Profile and look for the option to ask for reviews or share a review form.

Tips for review request texts

  • Get consent first. Only text customers who gave you their number and agreed to receive messages from your business.
  • Identify yourself. Start with your business name so the message is not mistaken for spam.
  • Include an opt-out. A simple “Reply STOP to opt out” is a widely used practice, and you should honor opt-outs promptly.
  • Keep it short. Aim for one or two sentences plus the link.
  • Time it well. Send within a few hours to a day after service, during normal daytime hours.
  • Ask once, maybe remind once. Repeated texts annoy customers and increase opt-outs.

A note on consent and texting rules

Business text messages in the US are covered by rules such as the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA), and carriers have their own requirements for business messaging. This page is not legal advice. As a cautious baseline, get the customer’s permission before texting, make it clear who is sending the message, include an easy way to opt out, and stop messaging anyone who asks. If you send texts at scale or through an automated platform, check the requirements with your provider or a qualified attorney.

Ask everyone, and keep it honest

Google’s review policies prohibit review gating, which means asking only customers you expect to be happy, or steering unhappy customers away from leaving a review. They also prohibit offering discounts, freebies, or other incentives in exchange for reviews. The FTC’s rule on fake reviews and testimonials, in effect since October 2024, adds further limits on review practices in the US.

Send the same simple request to every customer and let them share their honest experience. For a full walkthrough, read how to ask for Google reviews by text.

FAQs

Does this tool send text messages?

No. It only writes the message. You copy it and send it yourself, so nothing is sent automatically and no phone numbers are collected.

How long should a review request text be?

Short. One or two sentences plus your review link is enough. Shorter messages are easier to read on a phone.

Can I offer a discount for leaving a review?

No. Google prohibits incentives for reviews, and incentivized reviews can also raise issues under the FTC’s rules. Ask without offering anything in return.

When is the best time to send the text?

Soon after the service, while the visit is fresh, during regular daytime hours in the customer’s time zone.
